Hyderabad, May 5 (TNT): Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan on Tuesday emphasised that enhancing skills among job seekers is critical to expanding employment opportunities, while also underlining the need to address malnutrition for stronger human resource development.
Rajan made these remarks during a meeting chaired by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on the state’s future development plans.
He noted that robust industrial growth and investment inflows depend significantly on effective “ease of doing business” policies, and stressed the importance of encouraging startups to drive economic expansion.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister requested Rajan to provide recommendations on integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into education, including school, higher, technical, and medical curricula.
He also proposed the formation of a committee to examine the issue.
Revanth Reddy highlighted the state’s initiatives such as the establishment of a Skills University and Advanced Training Centres (ATCs) aimed at creating middle-level employment opportunities.
Rajan observed that the proper and systematic use of AI could deliver widespread benefits.
He also suggested that Telangana could adopt an industrial policy similar to that of Tamil Nadu to attract greater investments.
At the same time, he cautioned that data centres require significant electricity and water resources.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said the state has adequate land, infrastructure, and power generation capacity to support industrial growth.
He highlighted existing facilities such as an international airport and the Outer Ring Road, along with ongoing projects including Regional Ring Roads, radial roads, and specialised industrial clusters.
He added that Telangana is pursuing development through the “CURE, PURE and RARE” model.
He further noted that the Young India Skills University has been established to enhance youth employability, while Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are being upgraded into Advanced Training Centres to provide vocational training.
State IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said Telangana offers a highly conducive environment for ease of doing business, with strong infrastructure support for sectors such as pharmaceuticals, IT, and data centres.
Rajan is expected to visit Hyderabad again within the next three to four months.
