Pamidimukkala (Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh), May 1 (TNT): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday reiterated his government’s commitment to the welfare of the poor, stating that pensions are being provided promptly to widows and multiple schemes are being implemented for vulnerable sections.
Addressing a public meeting after participating in welfare activities for the poor and May Day Celebrations here, Naidu said initiatives such as pensions for lakhs of beneficiaries, subsidised meals through Anna Canteens and supply of cooking gas were aimed at supporting the underprivileged.
He noted that 263 Anna Canteens have been established across the state, benefiting drivers, labourers and unorganised workers.
Naidu lauded workers for their contribution under harsh weather and hazardous conditions, saying development is possible due to their efforts.
He said there are around 88 lakh unorganised workers in the state and the government is spending ₹615 crore on their welfare.
Announcing further measures, he said 15 labour addas will be set up across the state with shelter facilities to protect workers from extreme weather and help them access employment opportunities. These centres will also serve as skill development hubs.
Highlighting welfare support, the Chief Minister said auto drivers are being provided ₹15,000 annually as financial assistance.
Construction workers are eligible for ₹25,000 towards marriage expenses, ₹20,000 for childbirth assistance, ₹60,000 as compensation in case of natural death and ₹20,000 for funeral expenses.
He also announced plans to establish ESI hospitals in Achyutapuram, Guntur, Sri City, Kurnool and Amaravati.
Naidu said skill development training is currently being provided to 25,000 people and will be expanded to benefit up to 80,000 individuals, including family members.
Emphasising inclusive governance, he said he remains accountable to the people and is committed to making the Telugu community number one. He added that major projects such as Polavaram, Amaravati development, agri-tech initiatives and industrial corridors are generating employment opportunities.
The Chief Minister said welfare schemes including Thalliki Vandanam, Annadata Sukhibhava, Stree Shakti, Matsyakara Seva and free gas under Deepam are being implemented to uplift all sections of society, particularly women.
Earlier, the Chief Minsiter presented awards to outstanding workers and industrial managements and felicitated them.
