DRDO, Tata Advanced Systems unveil VIKRAM VT-21 armoured platforms, 30mm unmanned turret

Mumbai, Apr 28 (TNT): Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Tata Advanced Systems Limited(TASL) have jointly developed next-generation advanced armoured platforms ‘VIKRAM VT-21’ (tracked and wheeled variants) along with a 30mm unmanned turret.

Designed by the Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (VRDE), a DRDO laboratory, and developed and manufactured by Tata Advanced Systems with VRDE support, the prototypes were completed in under 30 months.

The platforms were flagged off recently at the Vehicle Dynamic Test Track, NCAT, in the presence of Samir V. Kamat, Chairman, DRDO and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D, along with senior DRDO officials and industry partners, said TASL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, in a release here on Tuesday.

Tata Advanced Systems CEO and MD Sukaran Singh said the project sets a new benchmark in collaboration between the company and DRDO in terms of speed and system quality.

The VIKRAM VT-21 platform integrates a 30mm unmanned turret, jointly developed by Tata Advanced Systems and DRDO, designed to enhance firepower and precision targeting while ensuring crew safety by allowing operation from within the vehicle hull.

The platforms have successfully completed mobility trials at NCAT, VRDE, with further trials scheduled.

The development is aimed at supporting future-ready, mobile and survivable combat systems for the Indian Armed Forces, reinforcing indigenous defence capabilities and operational readiness.
