Hyderabad, Apr 26 (TNT): The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has launched a statewide operation titled “Operation Crackdown 2.0” to intensify monitoring of cybercrime offenders and prevent repeat offences.
The coordinated drive, carried out in association with Law & Order police units from April 25, focuses on previously arrested cybercrime accused to track their current activities and curb further involvement in illegal operations, according to TGCSB Director Ms Shikha Goel.
A total of 3,567 cybercrime accused were arrested during 2024–25, of which 614 Telangana-based accused were shortlisted for intensive verification, particularly those linked to major financial frauds and multiple cases, she said.
In a statewide exercise, around 300 police teams conducted field verifications across multiple locations to track the present residence, profession and activities of the accused, she said this is the first large-scale post-arrest monitoring initiative of its kind in cybercrime cases in the state.
The accused include 269 mule account holders, 155 agents, 36 involved in CSAM-related cases, along with others linked to cyber slavery, fake SIM operations and call centres, she said 335 individuals have been verified so far, linked to 480 cases in Telangana and 1,233 cases nationwide.
Among them, 218 were traced,115 remain untraced, and three were reported deceased, she said.
The operation focuses on five key areas – physical verification, intelligence gathering, network mapping, legal compliance and deterrence—to ensure continuous surveillance of offenders and adherence to bail conditions.
Initiated strict surveillance measures, including opening suspect sheets in cases of repeat involvement or suspicious behaviour. The verification process is ongoing, she said.
The operation sends a strong message that cyber offenders will remain under constant watch even after arrest, reaffirming the police department’s zero-tolerance policy towards cybercrime, she added.
