Hyderabad, Apr 21 (TNT) : University of Hyderabad (UoH) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) have jointly launched a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Digital Twin Technology, marking a major step in strengthening industry–academia collaboration.
The facility was inaugurated on Monday along with the Interdisciplinary Research Cluster (IDRC) building at the university campus, in the presence of eminent scientists, academicians and industry leaders.
The UoH–HAL CoE in Digital Twin Technology was inaugurated by HAL Chairman and Managing Director D. K. Sunil.
The event was attended by UoH Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) J. Anuradha, HAL CEO M. Satyanarayana and other dignitaries.
The Centre has been established with HAL’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) support and is designed as a multidisciplinary platform to advance research, innovation and skilling in Digital Twin Technology, integrating simulation, real-time systems, data analytics and artificial intelligence.
The facility includes a Digital Twin Simulation and Analytics Lab with 25 high-end workstations, a Digital Twin Learning Studio, a Hardware Interface Lab equipped with sensors and controllers, and an Air Mobility Digital Twin Lab with drones, LiDAR and image processing tools.
The programme also saw the inauguration of the IDRC building by noted chemist Goverdhan Mehta, aimed at promoting interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
Officials said the Centre will focus on developing solutions in areas such as predictive maintenance, structural health monitoring, EV battery systems, autonomous systems and smart infrastructure, while also enhancing skill development among students and professionals.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sunil highlighted the importance of Digital Twin Technology in aerospace applications, stating that the collaboration would help develop real-time simulation models to improve efficiency and maintenance of aeronautical systems.
Prof Anuradha said the initiative aligns with the Institution of Eminence goals by bridging the gap between theoretical research and practical application.
The event concluded with discussions on future collaboration and a roadmap for strengthening industry–academia engagement.
