Kakinada , Feb 2 (TNT) : Ayahs (servant maids) working in government schools owing allegiance to the AP schools sanitation workers union ,an affiliate of CITU, have staged a dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Monday demanding payment of pending wages.
They also raised slogans demanding implementation of PF and ESI facilities.
Union district President Chandramalla Padma told media persons that school Ayahs were getting a meager sum of Rs.6,000 as salary and even that amount was not paid for months together.
She demanded minimum wage should be enhanced to Rs.26,000 and Rs.10 lakhs accident insurance be implemented.
The ayah’s wages should be paid by the government directly instead of from school contingent funds and as the workload was increased, one ayah for every fifty students should be appointed. Two pairs of uniforms should be supplied to them besides full salary be paid during summer holidays, she added.
Later, a delegation comprising of Subhashini, Lakshmi , Venkatalakshmi, Manga and Sunitha has called on the Joint Collector Apurva Bharat and presented a representation listing out their demands.
