Hyderabad/Mumbai, Feb 2 (TNT): Lupin Limited on Monday announced it has entered into a strategic collaboration with TB Alliance to advance and commercialise Telacebec, an investigational therapy targeting tuberculosis (TB) and other mycobacterial diseases, marking a significant business move in the global anti-infectives space.
The partnership allows Lupin to leverage its strengths in large-scale manufacturing, regulatory filings, and global supply chains, while TB Alliance continues to spearhead clinical development, the pharmaceutical company said in a release.
For Lupin, the collaboration expands its presence in the high-impact but under-served infectious disease segment, aligning with its long-term strategy of combining commercial scale with public-health–oriented innovation.
Telacebec is being developed for multiple indications, including TB, leprosy, and Buruli ulcer—areas that attract growing global funding support from governments and multilateral health agencies.
Industry analysts view the alliance as positioning Lupin to participate in future global procurement programmes and donor-funded supply contracts once the drug progresses through trials and regulatory approvals.
Ramesh Swaminathan, Executive Director, Global CFO and Head of IT and API Plus SBU at Lupin, said the collaboration reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainable growth through therapies addressing unmet medical needs, while also strengthening its global manufacturing and distribution footprint.
TB Alliance President and CEO Mel Spigelman, MD, said the partnership combines scientific innovation with robust chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC) capabilities, helping accelerate development timelines and improve access at scale.
The deal underscores a broader trend in the pharmaceutical industry, where large drugmakers are partnering with non-profit developers to balance commercial growth with global health priorities, particularly in diseases with significant social and economic impact.
