Hyderabad, Feb 1 (TNT): In a key development in the phone tapping case, Special Investigation Team (SIT) officials on Sunday questioned BRS chief and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) at his Nandinagar residence here for nearly five hours amid tight security arrangements.
The questioning reportedly focused on allegations that key police wings were misused during the BRS regime for political purposes, including surveillance of opponents and alleged support to the party’s electoral strategy.
According to sources, the inquiry began at around 3 pm and continued for nearly four hours and 45 minutes.
After completing the questioning, the SIT officials left the residence.
This marks the first time KCR has been examined by the SIT in connection with the high-profile case, which has drawn significant political attention across the state.
Earlier, the SIT had questioned KCR’s son and former minister K. T. Rama Rao, along with his nephew and former minister T. Harish Rao, and former Rajya Sabha MP Santosh Kumar. They reportedly appeared before the investigation team a few days ago and were grilled for nearly seven hours.
Soon after Sunday’s inquiry concluded, KCR held consultations with his legal team.
Senior BRS leaders, including K. T. Rama Rao, T. Harish Rao and R. S. Praveen Kumar, also met him at the residence.
The BRS has consistently described the phone tapping case as ‘politically motivated’, while the state government has maintained that the investigation is being carried out in a transparent and lawful manner.
Security was intensified in and around the Nandinagar area during the SIT’s visit, as a large number of media personnel gathered, awaiting official reactions from the party leadership.
