Hyderabad, Aprl 10 (TNT): As many as 42 underground cadres belong to three formations – 21 from the PLGA ( People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army) Battalion, 11 from the Telangana State Committee (TSC) and 10 from the DKSZC ( Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee),have surrendered before Telangana police here on Friday..
The Maoists also handed over 36 firearms including five AK- 47 , four SLR rifle, three INSAS rifles, two hand grenades and 1007 live ammunition of various calibre besides 800 grams of gold.
Among surrendred including People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Battalion Commander and DKSZC member SidinMalla alias Keshal alias Nikhil ; Chapa Narayana alias Gajendar alias Madhu, SCM, JMMWP DVC Secretary and Kadthi Sannu alias Manthu, DVCM ,BKASR DVC, a police release said here.
Talking to reporters on the occasion, Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) B.Shivadhar Reddy said the Maoist network in the state has suffered a major blow with 42 cadres surrendering in a single day and with the latest surrender of 11 Telangana State Committee members, no underground cadre or active member of the Telangana State Committee remains.
The DGP noted that a significant number of Maoist leaders had surrendered last month as well, followed by another 130 cadres laying down arms in the intervening period.
He described the fresh wave of surrenders as a major success for the police in anti-Maoist operations.
“With this, as far as the Telangana State Committee is concerned, it is totally vanished,” the DGP said, asserting that the state police’s sustained efforts have led to the dismantling of the Maoist organisational structure in Telangana.
A total eligible reward amount of Rs 1.93 crore was disbursed to the 42 surrendered cadres including 17 women, he said.
The sole Telangana-native among the group, Kunjam Idumal alias Mahendar, an Area Committee member, received Rs 4 lakh and the remaining 41 cadres, all natives of Chhattisgarh, were handed Rs 25,000 each as interim relief, with the balance to follow once documentation and bank account formalities are completed, he said.
The state committee members will get Rs 20 lakh, the divisional committee members will get Rs 5 lakh, area committee member will get Rs 4 lakh, and the party members will get Rs 1 lakh each.
As per the Union Home Ministry’s policy, the DGP said that Rs 5 lakh would be paid for handing over Light Machine Gun (LMG), Rs 4 lakh for an AK 47 rifle, Rs 2 lakh for INSAS rifle, Rs 2 lakh for SLR, Rs 1 lakh for .303 rifle, Rs 30,000 for 12 bore/single shot gun, and Rs 25,000 for a 9mm pistol/carbine/.38 revolver.
