Women’s Reservation in Legislatures Need of the Hour, Says PM Modi

New Delhi, Apr 9 (TNT): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asserted that reservation for women in legislative bodies is the need of the hour to make Indian democracy more vibrant and participative.

The Prime Minister said any delay in implementing women’s reservation in legislatures would be deeply unfortunate.

Sharing his views through a recently published op-ed article, Modi said the move would strengthen democratic participation and ensure greater representation of women in the country’s legislative framework.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Reservation for women in legislative bodies is the need of the hour. This will make our democracy even more vibrant and participative. Any delay in bringing this reservation will be deeply unfortunate.”

The Union government on Wednesday cleared the draft bills for amendments to the women’s reservation law, paving the way for parliament to take up the legislations for implementation of 33 per cent reservation for them in Lok Sabha and state assemblies from 2029.

The draft bills, approved by the Union Cabinet will be introduced in the special Parlaiment session starting April 16.

On Wednesday, Telangana state BJP President N Ramchander Rao asserted that 33 per cent reservations for women in legislative bodies would be implemented from 2029 general elections.

At a meeting in Hyderabad, Rao said Nari shakti Vandan Adhiniyam  introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a landmark decision for women’s empowerment. This was a monumental step toward ensuring greater political representation for women,” he stated.
