Hyderabad, Apr 7 (TNT): Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha on Tuesday stressed the need to strengthen public healthcare through science, collaboration and evidence-based policies.
Addressing a World Health Day event at Ravindra Bharathi here, he said public health is the foundation of a developed society and highlighted the role of doctors, nurses and healthcare workers, particularly during challenging times such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Minister said the government is strengthening healthcare services from primary to super-speciality levels by improving infrastructure, human resources, medicines and diagnostic facilities.
He noted a rise in non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and cancer, and said the government is focusing on preventive, promotive and curative care through NCD clinics, day-care cancer centres and palliative care services.
Rajanarsimha said dialysis services are being expanded with 79 centres and 109 trauma care centres are being established across the state to improve emergency response. He added that ambulance services have been strengthened with 213 vehicles.
On cancer care, he said the disease has been declared ‘ notifiable and a registry ‘ will be created for better planning. Advanced LINAC services have been introduced at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and regional cancer centres are being planned.
He said initiatives such as free health screenings for women, expansion of Aarogyasri and strengthening of secondary healthcare are being implemented to reduce the financial burden on people.
The Minister added that major projects including TIMS hospitals, Warangal Health City and a new Osmania Hospital are underway, while recruitment of healthcare personnel is in progress.
He called for collective efforts to improve health outcomes and stressed that every patient must be treated with dignity and care.
