Pune, Apr 7 (TNT): Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited on Tuesday announced the start of production of the new Volkswagen Taigun at its Chakan plant in Pune, reinforcing its “Make in India, for India and the world” strategy.
In a release, the company said the new Taigun features refreshed design elements, enhanced premium features and is tailored for Indian driving conditions while retaining Volkswagen’s hallmark European driving dynamics, comfort and safety standards.
Managing Director and CEO Piyush Arora said the start of production reflects the strength of India’s manufacturing ecosystem, enabling the company to deliver globally benchmarked vehicles with high localisation.
Volkswagen India Brand Director Nitin Kohli said the Taigun has played a key role in strengthening the company’s SUV portfolio and that the new model is expected to further drive growth and enhance customer experience.
Since its launch in 2021, the Taigun has built a strong presence in India and export markets, with over 1.43 lakh units produced so far, of which around 30 per cent have been exported.
The company said the new Taigun will further strengthen its SUV lineup by combining design, practicality, performance and safety, while supporting India’s role as a key production and export hub for the Volkswagen Group.
