No Compromise on Food Safety, Strict Action against Adulteration: Telangana Health Min.

Hyderabad, Apr 6 (TNT): Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha on Monday said the government will take stringent action against food adulteration and ensure no compromise on quality and public health.

Participating in a Food Safety Awareness Walk from Jalavihar to HMDA Grounds in Hyderabad as part of Health Week under the Praja Palana–Pragati programme, Damodar said rising consumption of processed and restaurant food has led to rapid growth in the food industry.

The Minister said the state has around 1.41 lakh food business establishments, with a majority located in urban areas, and expressed concern over increasing instances of adulteration and use of substandard ingredients.

He noted that consumption of such food is contributing to non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and heart ailments, adding that unhealthy dietary habits are placing both health and economic burdens on society.

The Minister said over 11,000 inspections have been conducted in the last two years, with action taken against violators.

He added that enforcement will be further strengthened through appointment of additional food inspectors, deployment of mobile testing units and establishment of new laboratories.

Referring to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s direction, he said a dedicated system will be introduced to curb food adulteration and ensure strict monitoring.

He stressed that ensuring safe and hygienic food is a shared responsibility and urged citizens and businesses to follow the message “Eat Right – Stay Healthy.”
