Telangana CM Lays Foundation for Rs 225 Cr Basara Saraswati Temple Redevelopment

Hyderabad, Apr 5 (TNT): The Telangana government has approved a ₹225-crore redevelopment project for the historic ‘Basara Gnana Saraswati Temple’, aimed at expanding infrastructure and enhancing facilities for devotees.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the project on Monday.

Located on the banks of the ‘Godavari River’, the temple is a prominent centre for Aksharabhyasam (initiation into learning) and is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, along with Maha Lakshmi and Maha Kali.

The shrine is believed to have been established by Sage Vedavyasa.

According to officials, the redevelopment will include construction of a nine-storey Rajagopuram, additional gopurams in other directions, a temple tank in the north-east, and expansion of the temple area from 20,000 square feet to 62,000 square feet.

The sanctum and ardha mandapam will be expanded, while four mada streets and a northern gateway will also be developed as part of the project.

Devotee amenities will include queue complexes with capacity for about 6,000 persons, a meditation hall, prasadam distribution centre, kitchen and dining facilities, parking areas with solar rooftops, landscaped gardens and improved road connectivity.

The master plan has been prepared with the approval of the ‘Sringeri Sharada Peetham’, ensuring adherence to traditional temple architecture and customs.

The redevelopment also aims to cater to the expected influx of devotees during the upcoming Godavari Pushkaram, with the government directing officials to ensure smooth execution of works without causing inconvenience to pilgrims.
