Hyderabad, Apr 3 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday expressed concern over increasing layoffs in the IT sector due to the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI), stressing the need to promote blue-collar employment alongside white-collar jobs.

Speaking after inaugurating AVN Lakefield Global School in Ibrahimpatnam, outskirts of the city, Reddy said the government is building an ecosystem to enhance skill development and provide advanced technical education to youth in line with industry requirements.
He noted that nearly 1.10 lakh engineering students graduate every year, but many lack employable skills.
The Chief Minister said the Young India Skills University, chaired by industrialist Anand Mahindra, has been set up to address the skill gap and improve job readiness among youth.
Highlighting the government’s focus on public education, he said Young India Integrated Residential Schools are being established in 100 Assembly constituencies, each spread over 25 acres with capacity for around 2,500 students, with an estimated investment of ₹20,000 crore.
He added that Telangana Public Schools will offer quality education from nursery to Class 12, along with facilities such as transport, breakfast and midday meals.
The government is spending about ₹1.08 lakh per student annually in public schools, he said.
Noting that 18 lakh students study in 26,000 government schools while 33 lakh are enrolled in 11,000 private schools, the Chief Minister called for strengthening the public education system.
He reiterated that education is key to addressing poverty and ensuring social progress.
Reddy also said the state has established a Sports University with the aim of winning gold medals at the 2034 Olympics, adding that youth are being encouraged to pursue sports as a career.
