Defence exports surge 62.66% to record Rs 38,424 crore in FY26

New Delhi, Apr 2 (TNT): India’s defence exports touched an all-time high of Rs 38,424 crore in the financial year 2025–26, registering a sharp increase of 62.66 per cent over Rs 23,622 crore in the previous fiscal, the government said on Thursday.

The growth of Rs 14,802 crore marks a significant milestone for the sector, with Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) contributing 54.84 per cent and the private sector accounting for 45.16 per cent of total exports.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the performance, stating that India is steadily progressing towards becoming a global manufacturing hub for defence equipment.

In a post on X, he said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is scripting an “impressive defence exports success story”.

DPSUs recorded a sharp rise of 151 per cent in exports compared to the previous year, contributing Rs 21,071 crore, while private sector exports rose by 14 per cent to Rs 17,353 crore.

The figures mark nearly a threefold increase in defence exports over the past five years, reflecting growing global acceptance of Indian-made defence products and deeper integration into international supply chains.

India currently exports defence equipment to more than 80 countries, while the number of exporters increased to 145 in FY26 from 128 in the previous fiscal, registering a 13.3 per cent rise.

The government attributed the growth to continued policy support, ease of doing business measures and streamlined export procedures, including a revamped online portal and simplified standard operating procedures for export authorisations.
