Hyderabad, March 27 (TNT): Legislators of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi will boycott the sports competitions being organised for MLAs and MLCs by the Telangana government, party working president K. T. Rama Rao announced on Friday.
Questioning the timing of the event, KTR said it was inappropriate to hold sports activities when several public issues remain unresolved across the state.
He urged the government to extend the ongoing Assembly session by at least 10 days to allow comprehensive discussions on pending issues, instead of adjourning proceedings for recreational events.
Criticising the move, he said the public would not approve of sidelining governance for such programmes. “Encouraging sports is important, but it should be done by supporting youth, not by organising games for legislators,” he remarked.
KTR maintained that if required, such events could be held after the Assembly is adjourned indefinitely, but only after addressing key public concerns.
The development underscores rising political friction between the opposition BRS and the ruling dispensation over priorities in governance and legislative functioning.
