Hyderabad, Mar 25 (TNT): Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Wednesday criticised BRS members for walking out of the Assembly without participating in discussions on welfare measures for the poor, alleging lack of intent to hear the government’s response to the budget.
Speaking during Question Hour, Bhatti said the opposition had no right to comment on budget allocations after tearing copies and staging a walkout.
Highlighting the Indiramma Housing Scheme, he said the government has allocated ₹22,500 crore for construction of 4.5 lakh houses across the state, with around 3,500 houses planned per constituency.
Alleging failures of the previous BRS government, he said promises of double-bedroom houses remained unfulfilled during its tenure.
Bhatti said the present government is committed to ensuring housing for the poor and is ready to allocate any amount required for the programme.
He said steps have been taken to expedite construction, with instructions issued for weekly release of bills to beneficiaries instead of delays seen earlier.
Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy is regularly reviewing the progress, he added.
The Deputy CM said although funds are available, construction needs to be accelerated at the ground level, noting that bill payments so far have not crossed ₹5,000 crore.
He urged MLAs to speed up works in their constituencies, assuring that funds would be released in line with progress, and reiterated that the government’s goal is to ensure that no poor family remains without a house.
