IIIT-H, NITI Aayog Host Roundtable on Quantum Tech for Life Sciences

Hyderabad, Mar 25 (TNT): IIIT Hyderabad, in association with the Frontier Tech Hub of NITI Aayog, hosted an industry–academia roundtable and workshop on “Quantum Technologies for Life Sciences” hee on Wednesday, focusing on actionable use cases and India’s quantum roadmap.

The event brought together researchers, industry leaders, startups and policymakers to explore how quantum computing and sensing can address complex challenges in healthcare, biology and drug discovery.

The workshop featured expert talks, brainstorming sessions and panel discussions, with deliberations centred on four key areas — quantum computing for drug discovery, scientific modelling and simulation, quantum-enabled diagnostics and quantum sensing applications.

A closed-door think tank roundtable held earlier identified high-impact use cases such as molecular modelling, quantum chemistry, protein structure prediction and genomic data analysis.

Participants noted that while quantum computing is a longer-term opportunity, quantum sensing offers immediate applications in precision imaging and healthcare.

Prof Deva Priyakumar, Dean (R&D), IIIT Hyderabad, said the focus is on identifying practical problems where quantum technologies can deliver tangible impact while building a collaborative ecosystem.

Prof Indranil Chakrabarty, Head of the Centre for Quantum Science and Technology at IIIT-H, said the collaboration with NITI Aayog would help advance research and innovation in the field.

Rama Devi Lanka, Lead Architect, Frontier Tech Hub, NITI Aayog, said the initiative aims to translate India’s quantum ambitions into deployable solutions, particularly in healthcare, while strengthening technological leadership.

Insights from the discussions will be compiled into a white paper and roadmap to guide industry-led research and innovation in quantum technologies for life sciences.
