Telangana CM announces Cabinet Sub Committee on Musi Rejuvenation project

Hyderabad, Mar 23 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday announced the government is ready to constitute a Cabinet Sub-Committee to steer the Musi River rejuvenation project.

He reiterated that the government will ensure rehabilitation for every displaced person and leave no one homeless.

Speaking in the Legislative Council, the Chief Minister said the panel comprising Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar will oversee implementation and invite suggestions from all stakeholders.

He urged opposition parties to desist from “false propaganda” and participate constructively.

The CM said the government has drawn up a comprehensive roadmap for the Musi project and plans an elevated corridor along the river from Gandipet to Gourelli to ease traffic movement across the city.

Highlighting infrastructure initiatives, he announced that India’s first underpass at Begumpet Airport has received approval, aimed at reducing signal halts and improving traffic flow. Measures including removal of footpath encroachments, development of multi-level parking near KBR Park and construction of elevated corridors on key routes are underway.

On urban transport, the Chief Minister said expansion of the Hyderabad Metro will begin soon, with the state considering taking over operations from Larsen & Toubro to improve last-mile connectivity.

Upgradation of Secunderabad and Cherlapally railway stations is also planned, he said.

Outlining long-term economic strategy, Reddy said a 10,000 sq km industrial corridor will be developed as part of the Telangana Rising 2047 vision, alongside the growth of PURE, CURE and RARE zones.

He added that polluting industries within the city will be relocated beyond the Outer Ring Road to curb pollution and free up land for housing.

Cautioning against unchecked urbanisation, the Chief Minister said Hyderabad must avoid the pollution and civic challenges seen in cities like Delhi.

He announced the introduction of the HILT policy and reclassification of industrial land into multi-use zones to promote sustainable growth.

For administrative efficiency, Reddy said the government has decided to divide Hyderabad into three municipal corporations and adopt a “Smart Governance” framework with unified policies across departments.

He also criticised K. T. Rama Rao and the previous BRS government over the handling of the Musi project, while reiterating that the current government remains open to suggestions from all quarters.
