Hyderabad, Mar 18 (TNT): The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday called on the state government to present a “realistic” budget, urging it to avoid inflated projections and ensure adequate allocations for key sectors.
Addressing a press conference, party spokesperson Kishore Poreddy alleged that both the previous BRS regime and the current Congress government had been presenting “record” budgets without matching revenues, and asked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to present an honest financial plan.
The party sought higher allocations for the farm sector, including implementation of ₹15,000 annual support under Rythu Bharosa and completion of pending farm loan waivers.
It also urged the government to allocate funds for farm labour welfare and contribute to the Centre’s rural employment scheme with enhanced workdays.
The BJP demanded adequate provisions for welfare schemes promised to women, including financial assistance, gold for brides and student support initiatives.
Expressing concern over allocations for social sectors, the party called for an increase in health spending to at least 8 per cent of the budget and sought creation of a dedicated fund for elderly care. It also demanded that education spending be raised to align with national averages.
The party further sought higher allocations for local bodies and warned against diversion of central funds meant for grassroots institutions.
Raising concerns over demolitions and urban projects, it alleged that the government was neglecting the interests of the poor and called for increased investment in housing within Hyderabad.
The BJP also demanded that the government make provisions to clear pending dues to various sections, including pensioners, employees, contractors and institutions.
