Telangana CM Reddy criticises KCR for absence from Assembly session

Hyderabad, Mar 18 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minsiter A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday evening criticised Leader of Opposition and BRS Chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) for not attending the Budget session of the Telangana Assembly, terming it a disregard for legislative responsibility.

Speaking during the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address, Reddy said the government had expected KCR, the former Chief Minsiter,  to participate in the session and offer constructive suggestions, but he remained absent during key proceedings.

Reddy alleged that the BRS leadership continues to display an “arrogant” and “autocratic” approach even after losing power in the 2023 Assembly elections, and said such conduct undermines democratic institutions.

He stated that since December 2023, the Leader of Opposition has drawn over ₹1.06 crore in salary and allowances without attending the House, and called for a decision on the practice of members drawing benefits without participating in Assembly proceedings.

Taking a dig at BRS leaders over their stance on encroachments, the Chief Minister said they had supported demolition drives while in power but were now opposing similar measures.

He announced that the government is ready to constitute a fact-finding committee to examine encroachments and demolitions carried out during both the previous and present regimes.

Expressing concern over environmental issues, Reddy stressed the need to restore lakes and protect urban ecosystems, warning that future generations would not forgive inaction.

Outlining the government’s long-term vision, he said the “Telangana Rising 2047” roadmap aims to drive economic growth, targeting a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and $3 trillion by 2047, supported by policy initiatives including artificial intelligence.

The Chief Minister said the government remains committed to advancing development despite lack of cooperation from the principal opposition.
