Hyderabad, Mar 9 (TNT): Hockey India has partnered with Adoptrees to undertake a tree plantation initiative during the Women’s Hockey World Cup Qualifiers 2026 being held in Hyderabad on Monday.

As part of the initiative, 50 trees will be planted for every penalty corner and 100 trees for every goal scored during the tournament, linking key moments in the matches with environmental action.
The plantation drive will be carried out in phases across Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Telangana.
Officials said plantation activities have already begun in Nagaland under the first phase, while the next phase will be taken up in
Arunachal Pradesh. Preparatory works such as slotting and drainage development are currently underway in Telangana ahead of plantation activities in the state.
On the opening day of the tournament, which featured four matches, Adoptrees committed to plant 3,250 trees based on match statistics.
The plantation initiative will continue throughout the tournament scheduled from March 8 to March 14.
The programme also aligns with the “Giving Back to Forests” initiative of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), aimed at promoting environmental sustainability within the global hockey ecosystem.
Hockey India said the plantation programme will use well-grown saplings aged between one and two years to ensure higher survival rates and long-term ecological impact.
