Telangana Govt, Centre Discuss Maoist Surrenders and Rehabilitation

Hyderabad/New Delhi, Mar 4 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday evening met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and discussed Maoist surrenders and rehabilitation.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister said policing in Telangana has improved significantly over the past two years, during which 591 Maoists laid down their arms and joined the mainstream.

He said several senior Maoist leaders have recently returned to normal life and that the state government is extending compensation and rehabilitation assistance to them as per the prescribed norms.

Reddy also sought financial assistance from the Centre for development works in backward regions of the state, sources said.

On February 28, senior leaders of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), including Devji, met the Chief Minister and sought enhancement of the financial rehabilitation package.

Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister V. Seshadri, DGP B. Shivdhar Reddy, Intelligence Additional DGP Vijay Kumar and SIB IGP B. Sumathi were among those present at the meeting.
