Hyderabad, Jan 27 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday night extended warm greetings to the people of Telangana on the occasion of the Medaram Sammakka–Saralamma Jatara, describing the world-renowned tribal festival as a powerful symbol of self-respect, sacrifice and tribal identity.

The Jatara commence at 6 PM on Wednesday with the arrival of Saralamma, and runs for four days until Saturday (January 31, 2026), in Medaram village, Mulugu district, Telangana.

Goddess Sammakka is installed at the altar (Gadde) on Thursday (January 29)

Appealing to the people to celebrate the Medaram Maha Jatara, also known as the Telangana Kumbh Mela, in a grand manner, the Chief Minister said the four-day festival at the sacred abode of tribal goddesses Sammakka and Saralamma should reflect the rich customs and traditions of the tribal community.

He noted that the state government has made elaborate arrangements for the jatara, which is expected to witness the highest-ever footfall of about 1.50 crore devotees this year.

Revanth Reddy said the People’s Government had accorded top priority to the development of Medaram by allocating ₹250 crore to improve infrastructure and amenities for devotees.

He said the Sammakka–Saralamma temple premises have been expanded, while the sacred platforms of Govindaraju and Pagididda Raju have also been renovated.

The Sammakka–Saralamma Gaddelu (sacred platforms) were modernised in tune with tribal traditions, and arches were constructed in all directions of the temple premises.

The Chief Minister said special focus was laid on improving the road network and permanent infrastructure to ensure hassle-free access for devotees.

The government, he added, has taken responsibility for preserving tribal culture, traditions and customs, while ensuring better facilities for pilgrims visiting Medaram regularly.

Recalling his personal association with the Medaram deities, Revanth Reddy said he had drawn inspiration from Sammakka and Saralamma during his democratic struggles, which eventually led to the formation of the People’s Government in Telangana.

He noted that, for the first time in history, a cabinet meeting was held at Medaram, rededicating the government to the development of the state under the inspiration of the tribal goddesses, who symbolise sacrifice for the people.

Though currently on an official visit to the United States, the Chief Minister said he was in constant touch with senior officials, enquiring about the foolproof arrangements being made for the prestigious jatara.

He instructed authorities to ensure that the four-day festival is conducted smoothly without causing inconvenience to pilgrims.

The CM directed officials to provide all necessary facilities to tribal and Adivasi devotees arriving from across the country to offer pujas, pay obeisance to the deities and take holy dips in the Jampanna Vagu.

He urged devotees to cooperate with the administration to ensure that no untoward incidents occur.

Revanth Reddy also instructed the police and all departments to work in close coordination to ensure the Maha Jatara is conducted in a safe, orderly and grand manner, and directed officials to remain available round the clock to assist devotees during the four-day festival, as per the arrangements already planned.
