Diwali is about spreading light and happiness in everyone’s lives: Telangana Governor
Hyderabad, Nov 7 (TNT) : Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Saturday called upon people to celebrate Diwali with love, compassion, service and mutual cooperation, saying the true spirit of the festival lay in spreading happiness and hope in everyone’s lives, particularly among the poor and those facing distress.
Extending Diwali greetings to the people of Telangana, the Governor said the festival symbolised the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and good over evil.
He urged people to eliminate hatred and negative thoughts and promote positivity in society.
The Governor and his wife Janaki Shukla celebrated advance Diwali with Lok Bhavan employees and their families here on Saturday evening.
They interacted with the staff, participated in bursting firecrackers and distributed sweets and festive gifts.
Addressing the gathering, Shukla said Diwali celebrations should go beyond lighting lamps at homes and inspire people to bring happiness into the lives of others.
Even a few comforting words could provide emotional strength to people facing difficulties, he said.
Referring to the Deepotsav celebrations in Ayodhya, where around 30 lakh diyas were being lit, he encouraged people to make traditional earthen lamps a part of household celebrations instead of candles, thereby supporting indigenous products and traditional artisans.
He also stressed the need for safe Diwali celebrations and urged parents to take special care of children while bursting firecrackers.
Punctuality and discipline should also be observed in daily life and official responsibilities, he added.
Special Chief Secretary to the Governor M. Dana Kishore said Diwali represented the triumph of good over evil and appreciated the Governor’s initiative to celebrate the festival with Lok Bhavan employees and their families.
Several senior Lok Bhavan officials and employees participated in the celebrations.
