Hyd: Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University Celebrates National Science Day

Hyderabad, Feb 28 (TNT): Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) observed National Science Day here on Saturday with a lecture on “India’s Agri–Revolution: Shortage to Surplus with Science”, marking the discovery of the Raman Effect by C. V. Raman.

Speaking on the occasion, University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani described B. R. Ambedkar as a great social scientist and emphasized the need for scientific thinking and technological advancement for national development.

He announced that BRAOU will soon sign an MoU with the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) to introduce agriculture-based courses for rural students.

ICRISAT Director General Dr. Himanshu Pathak highlighted how science transformed India from a food-deficit to a food-surplus nation and stressed the importance of agricultural research and respect for farmers.

Student science exhibitions, including a robot and a snake display, were major attractions.
