Telangana CM directs officials to continue dialogue with Maharashtra on Tummidihetti barrage

Hyderabad, Nov 3 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday directed irrigation officials to continue discussions with the Maharashtra government on the proposed Tummidihetti barrage and maintain cordial relations with the neighbouring State to facilitate the project.

At a review meeting held at his Jubilee Hills residence along with Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, the Chief Minister asked officials to prepare a comprehensive report on the areas likely to be affected by submergence and submit all relevant details, including documents relating to existing agreements, to the Maharashtra government.

Revanth Reddy said the Telangana government was prepared to pay adequate compensation for land likely to be submerged in Maharashtra due to the proposed barrage.

He suggested depositing the compensation amount in a joint account of the two State governments.

He also expressed no objection to Maharashtra conducting an independent survey to assess the extent of submergence and instructed officials to provide all information sought by the neighbouring State without delay.

The Chief Minister made several suggestions to officials in the light of recent discussions with Maharashtra and other issues relating to the proposed project.

Irrigation Adviser Adityanath Das, Irrigation Department Secretary Sridhar, Engineer-in-Chief Ramesh and other senior officials attended the meeting.
