JITO plans Rs 2,000 crore investment to build 10,000 hostel rooms across India

Hyderabad, Nov 3 (TNT): The Jain International Trade Organisation (JITO) has announced plans to invest around Rs 2,000 crore over the next eight years to construct 10,000 hostel rooms across India to provide affordable accommodation to Jain youth pursuing higher education and career opportunities in urban centres.

The organisation also plans to expand its international presence to 12 additional countries as part of its efforts to strengthen its global network.

The announcements were made at the installation ceremony of the new Managing Committee of JITO Hyderabad Chapter for the 2026-28 term, where B L Bhandari took charge as Chairman.

JITO Apex Chairman Sanjay Dangi, Vice-Chairman Pramod Chordia and President Himanshu Shah, along with other national office-bearers, attended the event.

Past JITO Apex Chairman Ganpatji Choudhary said the proposed hostel initiative was aimed at addressing the growing need for affordable accommodation among students migrating from smaller towns and rural areas to cities for education. The estimated investment was based on a construction cost of around Rs 20 lakh per room.

The organisation, which has a corpus of over Rs 700 crore, is also implementing several initiatives in healthcare, education, entrepreneurship and community development.

JITO’s nationwide healthcare initiative, Shraman Arogyam, has registered more than 10,700 Jain Sadhus and Sadhvis, facilitated 10,850 medical treatments and spent over Rs 96 crore on healthcare.

It has established a network of more than 12,000 hospitals to provide cashless treatment, Jaswant Munoth, Chairman of the initiative, said.

The JITO Administrative Training Foundation (JATF) has helped 37 Jain youth enter the Civil Services, with 10 candidates securing ranks among the top 100 in the UPSC examinations, its President Mayur Jain said.

Addressing the gathering, Sanjay Dangi called upon more members of the Jain community to join the organisation and strengthen business networking and professional collaborations.

Bhandari said the Hyderabad Chapter would focus on promoting the JITO Awas Yojana, affordable housing and expanding membership from the existing 748 to 1,008 during his two-year tenure.

JITO Secretary General Hemant N Shah said the organisation had grown from a single chapter in Ahmedabad to 156 chapters across India and 38 overseas chapters in 20 countries. It plans to expand into 12 more countries, he added.

The newly installed Hyderabad Chapter also constituted its Ladies and Youth Wings, with Tina Shah appointed Chairperson of the Ladies Wing and Nilesh Nahar as Chairman of the Youth Wing.

JITO works through three key pillars — economic empowerment, knowledge and seva — focusing on business development, education, healthcare and community welfare.
