Scouts and Guides help build discipline, character and service-minded citizens: Telangana Dy CM Bhatti

Hyderabad, Oct 30 (TNT) : Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday said the Bharat Scouts and Guides movement played a vital role in instilling discipline, punctuality, leadership qualities, moral values and a spirit of service among students.

Addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony for renovation and development works at the Bharat Scouts and Guides Model High School in Domalguda, attended by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, he said students should strive not only for personal success but also to become responsible individuals capable of serving society.

Emphasising that true leadership lay in serving others, Bhatti said the Scouts and Guides motto, ‘Be Prepared’, embodied the larger principle of being ready to help people in times of difficulty.

Education provided knowledge, but character enabled individuals to use it responsibly, he observed.

Referring to the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence and technology, he said technological advancements could answer many questions, but could not determine what kind of human beings people should become. The movement taught students to lead and follow, compete and cooperate, and remain independent while being socially responsible.

Recalling Mahatma Gandhi’s example, he said the Father of the Nation led millions through his conduct and character rather than through positions or authority, and stressed the need for values-based leadership.

Bhatti said the Scouts and Guides movement in Telangana had expanded significantly, with membership reaching nearly 70,000 within a year.

The government planned to extend its activities to more than 3,200 government schools, covering around 1.3 lakh students, he said.

He appreciated Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) for providing Rs 2.5 crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative for the renovation and development of the school.

The proposed works, including improvements to classrooms, sports facilities and computer infrastructure, would provide students with a better learning environment, he said.

Advising students that the real test of being a Scout or Guide was to follow its values even when nobody was watching, he assured that the State Government would continue to promote social service and education under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

The Deputy Chief Minister thanked the Governor for his commitment to Gandhian principles and his attention to the development of schools and the Scouts and Guides organisation.

State Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, Governor’s Secretary Dana Kishore, Education Secretary Yogita Rana and other officials attended the programme.
