Telangana Governor asks students to explore India’s cultural diversity beyond sightseeing
Hyderabad, Oct 29 (TNT) : Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday called upon students to use educational tours to understand India’s rich history, cultural diversity and regional traditions, rather than limiting their visits to sightseeing, shopping and entertainment.
Interacting with a 72-member student contingent from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, at Lok Bhavan here, he encouraged the students to explore the distinctive cultural features of different regions and share their experiences to promote mutual understanding and national integration.
The interaction was held as part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat–Yuva Sangam Phase VII programme, being conducted from October 23 to 29 by the Union Ministry of Education in association with the University of Hyderabad.
Shukla urged the students to understand the historical significance of Hyderabad’s Charminar, the architectural and technological features of Golconda Fort, and the distinctive language, cuisine, festivals and traditions of Telangana.
He said the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative sought to foster appreciation of India’s diverse cultures, traditions, art forms and lifestyles.
Emphasising the importance of cultural ties between Assam and Telangana, he called upon the students to act as cultural ambassadors by sharing the heritage of the Northeast with people in Telangana and taking the State’s cultural richness back to Assam.
Such interactions among young people from different parts of the country would promote mutual respect, national unity and a deeper appreciation of India’s diversity, he said.
The students shared their experiences of visiting Telangana and appreciated the State’s hospitality and Hyderabad’s technological development.
Governor’s Special Chief Secretary M. Dana Kishore, Joint Secretary Komanduri Shashi Kiran, University of Hyderabad nodal officer Dr S. Arulmozhi, officials and faculty members attended the interaction.
