Telangana DGP Launches Six Digital Initiatives to Modernise CID Operations

Hyderabad, Oct 28 (TNT) : Telangana Director General of Police C V Anand on Wednesday launched six digital initiatives of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to improve police service delivery, strengthen criminal investigations and enhance transparency and accountability.

The initiatives, launched at the CID headquarters here, include a Citizen Feedback Centre, Bharosa case-management software, a dedicated CID website, a Jail Release Surveillance System, a mobile facial recognition application and five volumes of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for criminal investigations.

The Citizen Feedback Centre will collect feedback from people who have recently accessed police services relating to petitions, FIRs, e-Challan services and passport verification, helping the department assess service quality and improve accountability.

The Bharosa software, developed by the Women Safety Wing, will digitally connect all 35 Bharosa Centres through a unified case file to monitor survivors’ progress from initial contact to case closure. It covers registration, counselling, medical, legal and rehabilitation support, replacing paper-based records with statewide dashboards and 23 standard reports.

The Jail Release Surveillance System, developed by integrating the National Informatics Centre’s e-Prisons platform with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), will automate monitoring of prisoner releases and send SMS alerts to concerned police stations and officers.

It also provides dashboards, analytics and prisoner-search facilities to support investigations.

The mobile facial recognition application, supported by a database of more than 9.8 lakh photographs, can generate facial-matching results in approximately 15 seconds.

The Android-based tool is intended to help police identify suspects, deceased persons, unidentified bodies and missing persons during field operations.

The DGP also released five volumes of SOPs covering bodily offences, property offences, crimes against women and children, special and local laws, and other offences.

The guidelines are aimed at standardising investigative procedures, improving the quality of investigations and strengthening the prospects of securing convictions.

The official CID Telangana website has also been launched as part of the department’s digital transformation.

Senior police officials, including DG (Law and Order) Mahesh Bhagwat, CID DG Charu Sinha and PCS ADGP Akun Sabharwal, attended the programme.
