IIIT Hyderabad opens applications for revamped MSIT Programme
Hyderabad, OCT 23 (TNT) : The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT Hyderabad) has commenced admissions for the January 2027 cohort of its redesigned Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) programme, the institute announced on Friday.
Developed by the Consortium of Institutions of Higher Learning (CIHL) in collaboration with IIIT Hyderabad’s Centre for Educational Technology and Learning Sciences (CETLS), the revamped postgraduate offering transitions away from traditional lecture-based frameworks to a practice-oriented model integrating core computing, applied artificial intelligence research, and early-stage venture incubation.
The degree will be formally conferred by IIIT Hyderabad upon completion of the two-year, four-semester residential programme conducted at its Gachibowli campus, the Institute said in a release.
“The MSIT programme is designed around the idea that students learn best when they can put knowledge into practice. We want them to build strong foundations in computing and AI, work on real research problems, and develop the confidence to take ideas forward, whether in industry or through venture-building,” said Prof. Sandeep Shukla, Director of IIIT Hyderabad.
According to the curriculum roadmap outlined by the institute:
-
Semester 1: Concentrates on foundational computing, including Algorithms and Data Structures, Computer Systems, and ‘Learning to Learn with AI Tools.’
-
Semester 2: Embeds students directly into IIIT Hyderabad’s research centres to build and deploy applied AI systems alongside institute faculty and research mentors.
-
Semester 3: Operates as a venture-building studio where student cohorts formulate business plans, engineer functional products, and pitch to early-stage venture capitalists for seed financing.
-
Semester 4: Allows funded student teams to focus full-time on launching their startups, while other candidates complete an industry co-op deploying production systems with corporate partners.
The programme is open to candidates holding 16 years of formal education with an aptitude for computer science, mathematics, and AI. Students currently in their final year awaiting results are also eligible to apply.
Shortlisting will be conducted via GATE, GRE, or the computer-based MSIT Entrance Examination, followed by mentor interviews. The admission cycle will run in two phases:
-
Cycle I: Application deadline is November 7, 2026, with the entrance test on November 11.
-
Cycle II: Application deadline is December 7, 2026, with the entrance test on December 11.
The final merit list will be published on December 20, 2026, with classes scheduled to begin on January 2, 2027. Tuition has been structured at ₹1.5 lakh per semester.
