AP: Lakhs of Devotees Witness Garuda Seva at Tirumala amid Heavy Rain
Tirumala, Oct. 16 (TNT): Lakhs of devotees witnessed the annual Garuda Vahana Seva at Tirumala on Friday evening despite heavy rain, gathering along the four mada streets to have darshan of Sri Malayappa Swamy during the ongoing Srivari Navaratri Brahmotsavams.
Devotees began arriving in Tirumala from Thursday night to secure places in the galleries for the highly revered event.
Despite the continuous downpour, pilgrims stood with umbrellas and raincoats, chanting “Govinda, Govinda” as they waited for a glimpse of the deity.
Sri Malayappa Swamy, adorned with traditional ornaments and silk robes, was taken in a procession on the majestic golden Garuda Vahanam along the four mada streets, blessing the devotees gathered on either side.
Ahead of the event, TTD Additional Executive Officer Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary inspected the devotee galleries and interacted with pilgrims who had arrived from various parts of the country to witness the Garuda Seva.
He sought their feedback on the arrangements and facilities provided by TTD during the festival.
The devotees expressed satisfaction with the arrangements and appreciated the services rendered by Srivari Sevaks.
The Additional EO also inspected the QR-code-based parking management system and instructed officials to ensure its effective implementation for the convenience of pilgrims.
The Garuda Seva, one of the principal events of the Brahmotsavams, attracted large crowds, including elderly devotees, families with children and young pilgrims.
The heavy rain did not deter devotees from waiting for darshan.
TTD officials, police personnel, vigilance staff and Srivari Seva volunteers remained on duty to regulate crowds, maintain order and ensure pilgrim safety amid the adverse weather conditions.
Tirumala pontiffs, TTD Board Chairman B.R. Naidu, Executive Officer M. Ravichandra, board members and senior officials were present during the event.
