Jio identifies three growth engines ahead of proposed IPO

Mumbai, Oct. 15 (TNT): Jio Platforms Managing Director Akash Ambani on Thursday outlined the company’s growth strategy ahead of its proposed initial public offering (IPO), identifying mobility, home broadband and enterprise-international services as its three key growth engines.

Addressing journalists in Mumbai, Ambani said Jio would focus on expanding connectivity, increasing broadband penetration and taking its in-house technology capabilities to international markets.

The company aims to play a significant role in India’s digital economy, projected at nearly $1.4 trillion by FY31, by leveraging its technology capabilities, digital platforms and infrastructure.

Jio currently serves around 533 million connectivity customers and accounts for more than 60 per cent of India’s data traffic, according to the company.

“Our most important unit of business is our customer,” Ambani said, reiterating the company’s focus on providing better and more affordable digital services to individuals, households and enterprises.

Under its mobility strategy, Jio sees an opportunity to add around 340 million customers to India’s 4G and 5G market over the next five years. This includes nearly 100 million first-time mobile subscribers and around 240 million users expected to transition from 2G to 4G and 5G services.

The company said its net additions of active mobile subscribers in FY26 were nearly three times those of the next-largest operator.

In the home broadband segment, Jio plans to expand its fixed broadband subscriber base from around 28.6 million to 100 million households. It accounted for approximately 67.5 per cent of new fixed broadband connections added in India during FY26, according to the company.

Jio is expanding broadband access through fibre and wireless technologies, with services available across 19,000 PIN codes.

The third growth engine combines enterprise digital services in India with international expansion. Jio estimates the domestic enterprise digital services market at around Rs 5.1 lakh crore, or $56.8 billion.

Ambani said nearly 65 per cent of India’s bank branches were connected through Jio’s network.

Internationally, the company plans to offer its in-house technology stack in select markets by partnering with global telecom operators as a managed services provider, rather than limiting its strategy to software sales.

Ambani said the approach could help India move from being a technology importer to becoming a technology exporter.

Earlier, Isha Ambani spoke about Jio’s origins and Reliance’s business philosophy, highlighting long-term planning, scale, execution and financial discipline.

The press conference also featured Uday Kotak recalling Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani and the company’s landmark 1977 public issue, linking Reliance’s capital-market history with Jio’s proposed market debut.

As it prepares for the proposed IPO, Jio aims to build on its connectivity business while expanding its presence in home broadband, enterprise digital services and international technology partnerships.
