Hyderabad Police identify 49 foreign nationals for overstaying, 12 deported

Hyderabad, Oct 3 (TNT): Hyderabad City Police have identified 49 foreign nationals for overstaying in India or violating immigration regulations during a special joint operation, with 12 of them deported to their respective countries, police said on Saturday.

The operation, launched on August 31, was conducted by the Special Branch–Foreigners Monitoring Cell in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), local Law and Order Police and the IT Cell.

Of the 49 foreign nationals identified, 30 were under Tolichowki Police Station limits, six each under Langar House and Mehdipatnam, three under Rajendranagar, two under Banjara Hills and one each under Saifabad and Gudimalkapur, police said in a release here on Saturday.

Police said the identified foreign nationals were lodged in designated holding centres, while the deportation process for the remaining persons was underway.

During the verification drive, police detected alleged violations including counterfeit currency-related activities, possession of narcotic substances, misuse of hospital translator/intermediary services and alleged prostitution-related activities.

In one case, 250 grams of ganja was recovered from a foreign national.

Police also found some student-visa holders allegedly working as translators or intermediaries for foreign patients in hospitals after expiry of their visas and collecting charges, including commissions of around 15 per cent of hospital bills.

In another case, a foreign national was allegedly found with Alprazolam tablets mixed with cough syrup for consumption.

Three South Sudanese nationals in Rajendranagar, who had allegedly overstayed after entering India on student visas, tested positive for cannabis during drug screening.

Police said foreign nationals with valid passports, visas and other required documents were welcome to stay in India, subject to compliance with visa conditions and applicable laws.

The police advised landlords, hotels, guest houses and service apartment operators to verify the passports and visas of foreign nationals, comply with prescribed reporting requirements, including Form III/C, and maintain relevant records.
