BJP alleges Congress-BRS quid pro quo to cover up corruption

Hyderabad, Oct 2 (TNT): Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao on Friday alleged that the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS were engaged in a “quid pro quo” arrangement to cover up corruption allegations against each other.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters here, Rao referred to the recent meeting in Sircilla, where Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy reportedly raised questions about the properties of former BRS ministers and their family members, prompting BRS leaders to level corruption allegations against the Congress government.

He alleged that the exchange of accusations would not benefit the public and accused both parties of limiting themselves to mutual allegations without taking action on corruption cases.

Rao said the Congress had promised before the Assembly elections to reopen corruption cases against the BRS and make arrests within 100 days of assuming office, but alleged that no arrests had been made so far.

He contrasted this with the BJP’s claims of corruption-free governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP state president accused the Congress government of failing to address public issues and using police action against those questioning it.

Referring to teachers’ demands concerning transfers and deputations, he alleged that the government had failed to implement GO 190 effectively. Of nearly 4,000 eligible people, only around 100 to 200 had reportedly benefited, he said.

Rao condemned the arrests of teachers protesting outside Gandhi Bhavan and demanded that the government fulfil their demands.

Rao alleged that farmers in Telangana were facing distress due to inadequate water and power supplies, with crops drying up in parts of Nalgonda district because of depleted borewells.

He also alleged that farmers and BJP leaders were arrested when they attempted to proceed towards Jurala.

With farmers having suffered losses during the Kharif season, he demanded the immediate release of one instalment of Rythu Bharosa funds ahead of the Rabi season.

Rao criticised the state government over its alleged failure to pay the premium for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and said the government’s promised alternative crop insurance scheme had not been implemented.

Claiming that people were increasingly looking at the BJP as an alternative to the Congress and BRS, he appealed to intellectuals and politically aware youth to join the party.

During the press conference, several personalities from the film and television sectors joined the BJP.

TV artist and lawyer Swarnalatha, actor Laxman, and senior cinematographers Suresh and Mahesh joined the party under the leadership of BJP State Cinema Cell Co-Convenor and actor Vaibhav Surya.

Rao welcomed them by presenting party scarves.

BJP Kisan Morcha State President Baswapuram Laxmi Narsaiah, state secretary Bharat Prasad, state chief spokesperson and media in-charge N. V. Subhash, spokesperson Indrasena Reddy and media panellist Subhashini attended the event.

Earlier, Rao paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries before participating in a Swachh Bharat programme at Chilakalguda in Secunderabad.

He praised the nationwide cleanliness initiative launched under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called on citizens to maintain cleanliness in their homes, streets and towns.

Later, addressing the 23rd Senior Citizens Day programme organised by the Lions Club at A.V. College in Domalguda, Rao described senior citizens as valuable assets to society and urged them to share their experience and knowledge with younger generations.

He also highlighted central government initiatives, including the Atal Pension Yojana and Ayushman Bharat health coverage for citizens aged 70 and above, which provides coverage of up to Rs. 5 lakh irrespective of socio-economic status.
