Kakinada traffic police launch drive against cell phone use while riding
Kakinada, Oct 2 (TNT) : Kakinada Traffic One Town police on Friday launched a special enforcement drive against the use of mobile phones while driving and drunken driving, imposing fines on motorcyclists at Balayicheruvu Centre.
Traffic Inspector N. Ramesh and his staff conducted the drive under the instructions of Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav, with the aim of preventing road accidents through strict enforcement and public awareness.
The Inspector said mobile phone use while driving was a major cause of road accidents and that heavy fines were being imposed as a deterrent.
Drunken driving was another major cause of accidents, he added.
Motorcyclists caught violating traffic rules were fined and counselled on road safety.
They were advised to wear helmets, avoid rash and negligent driving, and prioritise their safety as well as that of other road users.
Fines were also imposed on those riding without valid driving licences and those involved in triple riding.
Ramesh cautioned that triple riding and performing bike stunts could affect vehicle stability and increase the risk of accidents.
The special drive would continue for some time under the SP’s instructions, with the objective of reducing road accidents, he said.
