Telangana plans special initiatives to make Hyderabad global hub for gaming, animation

Hyderabad, Sept  30 (TNT) : The Telangana government is taking measures to position Hyderabad as a national and international hub for gaming, visual effects (VFX) and animation, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju said on Wednesday.

Chairing a review meeting at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat on preparations for the Telangana Global Summit, scheduled to be held in December at Bharat Future City, Jaju said special programmes would be organised to attract global companies in the creative and entertainment sectors and encourage them to establish centres in Hyderabad.

The summit is part of the state’s efforts to achieve a one-trillion-dollar economy.

Under the theme “Stories, Games & Dreams”, the event will feature programmes aimed at engaging young people and promoting opportunities in gaming, animation and related industries.

A Comic, Gaming and VFX Business Day will be organised as part of the summit.

Other events will include Comic Con, DreamHack and India Game Utsav, along with a business-to-business (B2B) expo, an innovation zone and animation stalls to showcase technology, innovations and investment opportunities.

Jaju said Hyderabad was already home to around 50 large and nearly 150 medium-sized animation and gaming companies.

The government was working to attract more global players and create employment and skill-development opportunities for young people in these emerging sectors.

Students from schools and colleges across Hyderabad would be invited to participate in the summit’s programmes and visit the exhibits.

Arrangements were being made to facilitate participation from around 70 colleges, with nearly 50,000 visitors expected to attend the events.

The initiatives are aimed at promoting creativity and skills among young people and strengthening Hyderabad’s position in the global creative and entertainment industries, he said.

IT Department Joint Secretary Anudeep Durishetty and other senior officials attended the meeting.
