Telangana BJP chief accuses Revanth Reddy of dividing Hindus over remarks on Hindu deities
Hyderabad, Sept. 29 (TNT): Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Tuesday accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of attempting to divide Hindus and consolidate Muslim support through his remarks on Hindu deities, and demanded an unconditional apology from him.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office here, Rao criticised the Chief Minister’s reported statement that “Sri Ram is God of the rich and Har Har Mahadev is God of the poor”.
He said there was no distinction between Lord Ram and Lord Shiva, asserting that both deities blessed the poor and the needy.
Rao alleged that the Chief Minister’s remarks were intended to divide Hindu society and unite Muslims for electoral gains.
He also linked the comments to the forthcoming Khairatabad by-election, which fell vacant following the disqualification of Danam Nagender.
Referring to an earlier statement attributed to Revanth Reddy during the Jubilee Hills by-election, Rao recalled the Chief Minister’s reported remark that “Congress is Muslim and Muslim is Congress”.
The BJP leader also rejected the division of Indian society along Aryan-Dravidian lines and the classification of Hindu deities along regional or social lines, alleging that such theories were introduced by British colonial rulers to divide the country.
Rao said Hindus across India worship Lord Ram and Lord Shiva, and asserted that the country remained united from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Assam to Ahmedabad.
He further accused the Chief Minister of making statements that, according to him, could deepen divisions within Hindu society. Rao reiterated his demand for an unconditional apology over the remarks.
