CBI Files 21st Chargesheet in Homebuyers Fraud Case Against Acme Realtors
Mumbai, Sept 29 (TNT) : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed its 21st chargesheet in connection with alleged large-scale fraud involving homebuyers, against five former promoters/directors of Acme Realtors Private Limited and its holding company, Acme Housing India Private Limited.
The case pertains to alleged fraudulent activities linked to the Acme Boulevard housing project at Villege Majas, Sarvodaya Nagar, Jogeshwari (East), Mumbai.
The chargesheet was filed before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CBI Cases), 3rd Court, Esplanade Court, Mumbai, the agency said in a release on Monday.
According to the CBI, the accused allegedly induced homebuyers through false assurances and fraudulent representations to secure financial benefits through illegal and deceptive means.
The investigation reportedly uncovered substantial evidence, following which the chargesheet was filed under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code relating to criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust and dishonest receipt of stolen property.
The CBI is also investigating 32 other cases registered following directions from the Supreme Court against various builder companies and unidentified officials of financial institutions across the country. These cases relate to alleged cheating of homebuyers and diversion of funds.
The agency had previously filed 20 chargesheets against several builder companies and officials of certain banks and financial institutions in connection with similar cases.
The CBI reiterated its commitment to ensuring accountability in economic offences, corruption and public fraud, particularly cases affecting homebuyers and ordinary citizens.
