Kakinada Police Launch ‘Stop-Wash-Go’ Drive to Prevent Highway Accidents
Kakinada, Sept 28 (TNT): Kakinada traffic police have launched a special ‘Stop-Wash-Go’ drive at the Krishnavaram toll plaza on the National Highway to prevent road accidents caused by driver fatigue and drunken driving during midnight and early-morning hours.
The drive was initiated on the directions of District Superintendent of Police Bindu Madhav.
Traffic police personnel, led by Kakinada Traffic-I Police Station Inspector N Ramesh, conducted vehicle checks late on Sunday night and asked drivers to wash their faces with water before resuming their journeys to help overcome drowsiness.
Police also counselled drivers on the risks of driving without adequate sleep, consuming alcohol and violating traffic rules.
Drivers showing signs of fatigue were advised to park their vehicles safely and take adequate rest before continuing their journeys.
Those found driving under the influence of alcohol were fined and asked to resume their journeys only the following morning, police said.
The police advised motorists to avoid rash and negligent driving, wear seat belts and refrain from alcohol consumption.
Drivers were also urged to prioritise their families’ safety by ensuring they were fit to drive before setting out on long journeys.
Inspector Ramesh said the special drive would continue for some more time as part of efforts to reduce highway accidents and improve road safety.
