Bank Unions Defer 3-day Nationwide Strike, Agitation After Reaching Understanding with IBA
Mumbai, Sept 28 (TNT): The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has deferred its proposed three-day nationwide strike and agitation programmes following an understanding reached with the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) on key demands, according to a circular issued by the Forum.
30th September 2026, followed by an indefinite strike from 26th October, on four clear demands — implementation of the agreed Five-Day Banking, keeping the unilateral PLI scheme in abeyance, bilateral modification of the PLI framework, and settlement of the long-pending residual issues.
At a meeting between the IBA and UFBU held on Sunday, it was agreed to constitute a high-level committee to examine the demand for declaring the remaining Saturdays as holidays in banks.
The committee will explore possible alternatives and consult all stakeholders, including customers, to arrive at an acceptable solution, the circular stated..
Regarding the Performance-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for Scale IV and above officers, discussions will begin with the IBA proposing modifications to the scheme to address the concerns raised by unions and associations.
The parties also agreed to discuss the residual issues listed in the minutes dated March 8, 2024, with a view to resolving them expeditiously.
In view of these developments, the UFBU has agreed to defer its proposed strike and agitation programmes, the circular stated.
The circular was signed by representatives of various bank employee and officer organisations, including the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), National Confederation of Bank Employees (NCBE), Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), Indian National Bank Employees’ Federation (INBEF) and other constituent organisations.
