Telangana Jagruthi Prez condemns infant’s death in alleged caste attack in Nagarkurnool Dist, NHRC registers case

Hyderabad, Feb 22 (TNT): Telangana Jagruthi President and former MP, K. Kavitha on Sunday strongly condemned the death of a two-month-old infant following an alleged caste-based attack during the Kummera Mallanna Jathara in Nagarkurnool district.

In a statement, Kavitha expressed deep anguish over the incident and alleged that a Rajaka family was targeted due to caste discrimination.

According to her, the infant’s parents, Ganesh and Mounika, had attended the jathara along with the child, grandmother and aunt when they were reportedly attacked.

Kavitha termed the incident inhumane and demanded strict action against those responsible.

She urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the culprits are brought to justice.

Calling for firm action, she said such incidents of caste-based violence must be dealt with sternly to prevent recurrence and to ensure safety and dignity for vulnerable communities.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has registered a case over the death of a two-month-old infant following an alleged caste-based attack on Feb 18, 20226.

The family alleged that upper-caste individuals, including the village sarpanch, attacked them.

The victims have alleged that they were physically assaulted and subjected to casteist abuse. They also claimed that the police initially failed to register a case despite the existence of video evidence.

Police, however, stated that the incident involved stone-pelting and clashes between two groups, with cross-complaints filed.

The Police have registered multiple FIRs and an investigation is underway.
