Union Minister Chouhand asks states to expedite farmer ID generation, land record integration

Hyderabad, Sept 18 (TNT): Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday asked states to accelerate work on Farmer ID generation and integration of land records with the Farmer Registry, stressing that the exercise must be completed within stipulated timelines.

Reviewing the progress of AgriStack at the Regional Agriculture Conference for Southern States here, Chouhan said Telangana and Karnataka had crossed 75 per cent completion in Farmer ID generation, while Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Telangana had made significant progress in georeferencing.

Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands had completed the Digital Crop Survey, he said.

Chouhan asked Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to speed up Farmer ID generation, noting that several agricultural systems in the coming years would depend on Farmer IDs.

“I expect that no state should be left behind,” he said.

He also called for expediting the linking of land parcels, particularly in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and better coordination between land records and the Farmer Registry in Kerala.

The Union Minister asked Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to prepare and notify Standard Operating Procedures for tenant farmers, including sharecroppers and agricultural tenants.

Puducherry and Lakshadweep were directed to undertake georeferencing of village maps, he added.

Ministers of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ram Nath Thakur and Bhagirath Choudhary, besides Agriculture Ministers from Telangana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry, attended the conference.

Senior officials, including Agriculture Secretary Atish Chandra and Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education, and ICAR Director General M. L. Jat, were also present.
