Liberation heroes’ sacrifices will inspire generations : Telangana Governor
Hyderabad, Sept 17 (TNT): Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Thursday paid homage to martyrs and freedom fighters associated with the Hyderabad Liberation struggle, saying their sacrifice, courage and spirit of struggle would continue to inspire generations.
Shukla participated in the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad along with Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan, who attended the event as the chief guest.
The Union government had announced the celebrations at the venue to commemorate the integration of the erstwhile Hyderabad State with the Indian Union.
The Governor said September 17, 1948, marked the day when the people of the erstwhile Hyderabad State attained freedom and became part of the Indian Union.
He recalled the contributions and sacrifices of farmers, youth and women during the struggle.
Shukla also remembered Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his role in the integration of Hyderabad State with the Indian Union.
He said Liberation Day was not merely an occasion to recall a historic event but also an opportunity to reaffirm the values of unity, integrity and democracy.
The Governor called upon people to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the liberation heroes and contribute towards building a strong, prosperous and developed Telangana.
The celebrations at Secunderabad Parade Ground included a march-past by Central Armed Police Forces contingents, a cultural presentation on the theme “Hyderabad Vimochanam” and other programmes.
Earlier, Shukla received Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan at Begumpet Airport on his arrival in Hyderabad to attend the Telangana Liberation Day celebrations at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad.
