Telangana: Khammam railway station redevelopment works nearing completion :SCR

Khammam (Telangana), Sept 16 (TNT): Redevelopment works at Khammam Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) are nearing completion, with the project being taken up at a cost of Rs 25.41 crore, South Central Railway said on Wednesday.

The station, under the Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway, is categorised as a Non-Suburban Grade-3 (NSG-3) station and is located on the Kazipet-Vijayawada section.

Khammam station handles an average footfall of around 20,000 passengers a day, with about 55 trains halting at the station. It also has stoppages for important superfast trains connecting New Delhi, Howrah, Chennai, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Secunderabad and Tirupati, among other destinations, SCR said in a release here.

Several works have already been completed, including a foot overbridge, lifts, escalators, platform surfacing, and improvements to retiring rooms, RPF rooms and the AC lounge.

Works on the new station building, landscaping, circulating area and station façade are progressing, the railway said.

The redevelopment is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, under which 40 railway stations in Telangana are being redeveloped at an estimated cost of over Rs 2,000 crore.

Khammam Railway Station is located at the intersection of the Delhi-Chennai and Hyderabad-Vijayawada railway lines and serves as an important rail link between north and south India.

The station also connects Telangana and Andhra Pradesh and serves Khammam district headquarters and surrounding towns and villages.

The redevelopment is aimed at improving passenger amenities, accessibility and convenience while contributing to the growth of the local economy, the release added.
