Telangana: Woman Sr. Maoist cadre Nakka Susheela Rani surrenders in Nizamabad
Nizamabad (Telangana), Sept 15 (TNT): In a major setback to the CPI (Maoist), a Senior woman CPI (Maoist) cadre Nakka Susheela Rani alias Latha, Lalitha, Rela, Jyothi, Madhavi and Sweatha surrendered before Nizamabad Police on Tuesday after spending around 34 years in the underground movement.
Susheela Rani, a Division Committee Member (DCM) of the Maoist Education Department Committee and Maad DVC in Chhattisgarh, joined the CPI (ML) People’s War in 1992 and was promoted as DCM in 2002, according to a police release here.
She worked in various party committees and training teams in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Chhattisgarh and was associated with the Maad DVC from 2014 to January 2025, police said.
The police said she had sustained firearm injuries during an incident in the Nallamala forest in 1998 and continued underground activities despite health issues.
Under the Telangana government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy, she was handed over an eligible reward of Rs 5 lakh through a cheque and interim relief of Rs 25,000.
She will also receive other benefits under the rehabilitation policy, police said.
Police said 266 underground CPI (Maoist) cadres had surrendered in Telangana during 2026 so far, including three Central Committee Members, 12 State Committee Members, one Regional Committee Member, 25 Divisional Committee Secretaries/Members, 94 Area Committee Secretaries/Members and 131 party members.
A total of 238 firearms had also been recovered in Telangana during the year, according to police data.
The police described the surrender as another setback to the CPI (Maoist) and appealed to remaining underground cadres from Telangana to join the mainstream and avail themselves of the state’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.
