Telangana CM calls for unity among Arya Vysyas to secure due share in politics
Hyderabad, Sept 13 (TNT): Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday called for unity among Arya Vysyas to secure their due share in politics and said the community’s foresight, prudence and strong sense of self-respect were among its distinctive qualities.
Addressing a gathering after laying the foundation stone for the Arya Vysya Atma Gourava Bhavan at Uppal Bhagayat here, Mr Reddy said the People’s Government was according due respect and representation to the community in nominated posts and would extend assistance for construction of the building.
He said an Arya Vysya representative had already been appointed as a corporation chairman and the chairperson’s post of Kodangal Municipality, his constituency, had also been given to a member of the community.
The Chief Minister said the Arya Vysya community had made significant contributions to society despite economic hardships and traditionally attached greater importance to dignity and self-respect than wealth.
He expressed confidence that the Atma Gourava Bhavan would cater to the needs of children from underprivileged families belonging to the community and announced government assistance for its construction.
Recalling the contributions of prominent Arya Vysya leaders, Mr Reddy paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and described him as a global leader whose philosophy of non-violence influenced freedom movements in several countries.
He also recalled the sacrifice of Potti Sriramulu in the formation of Andhra Pradesh and the contributions of former Chief Minister K Rosaiah and other leaders from the community who served in governments.
Referring to Rosaiah’s tenure as Finance Minister, Mr Reddy said he had played an important role in ensuring that Telangana inherited a surplus budget of ₹16,000 crore when the State was formed on June 2, 2014.
Recalling his personal association with Rosaiah, the Chief Minister said the former Chief Minister had advised him to exercise restraint whenever he spoke aggressively in the Legislative Council. Rosaiah had also blessed him for a successful political career and recognised his potential to emerge as a future leader in Telangana, he said.
Mr Reddy said the government had installed Rosaiah’s statue in Hyderabad to honour his legacy following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, despite criticism from some political forces.
He said the Arya Vysya community had not received the recognition it deserved and asserted that the People’s Government had complete faith in the community.
