Kakinada, Feb 18 (TNT):  A group of environmentalists  headed by  Rambala Satish have staged dharna in front of the Collectorate here on Wednesday protesting against the move to establish a rocket launching center on the Kakinada Hope island expressing serious concern that the Biodiversity would be impaired.

They raised slogans demanding protection of biodiversity along the Kakinada coast. Satish told media persons that they were deeply concerned about the media reports that ISRO scientists would be visiting Hope island for three days to inspect the suitable site and conditions for establishment of a rocket launching center .

He said the Kakinada coast lost its biodiversity due to growing industrial pollution for the past twenty years adversely affecting the coastal environment.

In this backdrop, if a rocket launching center is established, many marine creatures are likely to get extinct soon due to pollution caused by toxic gases and chemical wastes.

Its impact will be so severe that on a long range it will affect the humans also ‘ he added. Making it clear that the right to life is not only for humans but also for all living beings, he said ,it is the responsibility of everyone to protect that right .

He recalled that  two decades ago , the kakinada coast was full of marine creatures such as star fish, red crabs and children use to pick up most of their shells along the sandy soils which have now became a thing of the past .

Sathish has demanded  the government to drop the move of disturbing the ecology  in kakinada coast by establishing rocket station on Hope island.

Later led by Sathish , the protesters called on the Joint Collector Apurva Bharat and submitted a memorandum in support of their demand.
